$3 million mark eclipsed for first time for Nationwide Children’s Hospital through alliance with Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation
Dublin, Ohio – Officials of the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide announced today that the 45th playing of the prestigious invitational, concluded July 19, 2020, raised a record-setting $3,100,000 for Nationwide Children’s Hospital through an alliance with the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation. It is the first time the Tournament’s yearly charitable giving total has topped $3 million. Since its inception in 1976, the Memorial has eclipsed $38 million in donations to central Ohio charities, with nearly $26 million going to Nationwide Children’s.
“The Memorial established giving back to Nationwide Children’s Hospital and the community as a priority for the Tournament from the very beginning,” said executive director Dan Sullivan. The 2020 Memorial was certainly unlike any other, but we never lost focus on the importance of charity. Despite the extreme challenges, the Tournament overcame a lot of obstacles, and with the support of many, we raised the bar to set a single year giving record for Nationwide Children’s. This is an amazing accomplishment given all that we faced during the pandemic; And it wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Nationwide, our community partners, our new friends at Workday, and the Memorial’s incredible volunteer force, as well as opportunities the Memorial created with the PGA TOUR such as the Nationwide Challenge. We are grateful for their partnerships, friendships, and dedication to the Tournament.”
True to the hearts of Jack and Barbara Nicklaus, the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide includes as one of its primary objectives a genuine philanthropic vision. Embodied in the Memorial’s enduring partnership with Nationwide Children’s and support of its Memorial Tournament Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, pediatric care is at the center of each campaign and event these entities jointly execute.
“At Nationwide Children’s, we like to celebrate success and milestones,” said Tim Robinson, CEO, Nationwide Children’s Hospital. “That may include the first breath a baby takes on their own in the Memorial Tournament NICU. It may be a breakthrough in research for a new treatment for a rare neuromuscular disease or a family finding the help they need for a child suffering from a mental health issue. I could name so many ways the Memorial Tournament, Nationwide and the Tournament’s volunteers have helped to support the children we serve. On behalf of the hospital, we are so grateful for this year’s generous donation. It is a true testament to the work of the Memorial and Nationwide teams, who were able to raise a record $3.1 million for the hospital in such an incredibly challenging year for everyone. We cannot do what we do without your support, and this donation will go a long way to help us continue to help our patients and their families.”
Nationwide, which has been the Tournament’s presenting sponsor for 10 years, shares a similar tradition of support for Nationwide Children’s. Nationwide is committed to broadening the impact of its presenting sponsorship of the Memorial Tournament to bring greater awareness and increased funding to Nationwide Children’s and to those who benefit the most – families and children in need of care.
“Today’s announcement is a celebration of the collaborative success in raising essential dollars for Nationwide Children’s Hospital,” said Nationwide Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer Ramon Jones. “Nationwide and the Memorial share a similar tradition of support for the hospital; And this record-setting gift is a terrific example of the power of partnerships among many organizations coming together to help kids and support the life-changing work happening every day at Nationwide Children’s.”
