What are the services you use the most (or are looking forward to using) from the Columbus Chamber?
As a business owner and human resource service provider, membership affords me with the opportunity to actively participate in Chamber events. These opportunities help stay current with current business and community hot topics, happenings and workforce trends.
The Chamber’s network of connections, knowledgeable staff, key data and metrics are invaluable benefits.
How do you stay engaged with trends that you see in your industry?
What my career has taught me is that to be a trusted and effective HR partner, you must understand the organization you are serving – its purpose, leadership vision, financial drivers, operations, workforce and culture.
Staying current on business news and trends, the economy and human resources are equally essential to operating Kate & Co. Advisors. I must continuously listen, observe and experience.
My strategy invests time across many channels. Reading and listening are key. Participating in seminars or panel discussions on various HR, legal, business or economic topics are essential. Face-to-face networking and partnering with clients all provide meaningful opportunities that consistently enrich my HR and business knowledge.
I also hold an Human Resource Professional (PHR) credential through the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI). HRCI is the largest HR certification organization in the world. This certification is a career long commitment which, in my opinion, requires dedication, offers credibility and exhibits mastery of the principles of human resources. It also requires me to re-certify every three years.
What makes Columbus such a great place to do business?
Columbus exudes innovation and positive energy because it has a diverse economy, strong leaders and a highly skilled and educated workforce.
With an extremely competitive labor market, I find that Central Ohio leaders recognize the need for their organizations to perform at a high level while offering vibrant organizational cultures and positive working environments.
From my collective experiences, organizations regardless of size or industry are committed to being performance driven cultures, developing caring managers and creating amazing work environments.
