Students in the inaugural TalentID Academy are eighteen years old, halfway through their data analytics course and already in demand.
“We’ve had a tremendous response from potential employers looking to talk with our graduates about internship and apprenticeship opportunities,” said Jen Wells, President of TalentID Academy.
It’s not surprising given that Indeed.com routinely lists hundreds of open data analytics jobs in Ohio daily.
“These jobs are just very hard to fill. The demand is skyrocketing and there aren’t a lot of formal training programs available,” Wells added.
John Choi, serial tech investor and entrepreneur served as the instructor of the initial cohort which included graduating high school seniors from Franklinton and Dublin High Schools.
It’s been rewarding to observe the progressive development of this cohort. Our focus for instruction steers away from “one-size-fits-all” with a focus on individual and team-based instruction. We combine soft and hard skill development engaging in both accredited curriculum and collaborative, experiential learning. I find it most rewarding when the class focuses on complex topics like preparing for job interviews, how to market yourself, and applying academic techniques to real life situations. The entire TIA team is passionate about equipping people with skills that help them build confidence for their individual career journey. This program is an inspiring model for workforce development and transformation. I could not be prouder of the work we do and our commitment to social impact – the positive ripple effects of this fills me with hope.
Nabil, a high school senior from Dublin enrolled in the class said, “This program prepares you for life after high school, it’s more than just a technical course.” He added that he appreciated “how flexible and adaptable the curriculum is” and that the course taught not only technical skills like Google Analytics but broader professional skills such as resume writing.
Wells said that based on the success of the first cohort, TalentID Academy is offering a Summer cohort starting June 3rd. “We will be opening up the program to learners of all ages. If you are an employer, you can send your team members here. If you are an unemployed or underemployed adult, we want you here. If you are a high school or college student 18 years of age or over, we can help you get a jumpstart on your career.”
She added that programs like TechCred, WIET and workforce development grants may allow for adult learners to participate in the program at a greatly reduced price or at no cost.
